Specific RHCCC Goals Improve community awareness of the RHCCC as a vehicle for community improvement and problem solving. Status: Effort is ongoing, invite your friends and neighbors to attend one of our monthly meetings. Construction of a Community Center for Rowland Heights - Status: We are making excellent progress on this goal. Thanks to the support of Supervisors Don Knabe, money has been earmarked in the County budget for a 15,000 s.f. center and a search for a suitable site is underway. Landscaping of the Rowland Heights off-ramps of the 60 freeway - Gary Neeley from State Assemblyman Bob Huff's office has been an active supporter and tireless worker assisting us in the pursuit of this goal. Status: A project committee with representatives from Senator Huff's office, Cal-Trans,the City of Industry, Cal Poly Pomona, Regional Chamber of Commerce, Supervisor Knabe's office, Walnut Valley Water District & the RHCCC has been appointed and a landscape architectural firm has been obtained. The project will be timed to correspond with the completion of the existing Cal Trans work on the 60 freeway. Center median landscaping for major Rowland Heights roadways including Colima and Nogales north of Colima. Status: Landscaping along Fairway south of the 60 Freeway was recently completed and the County has committed to the additional work, however it is not yet scheduled. NOTE: Effective 2/08 County has withdrawn its commitment to this project due to budgetary constraints. Increase graffiti abatement services by the County to seven day per week. Status: Goal Achieved Improved code enforcement throughout Rowland Heights. Status: Goal Achieved Improved roadway drainage along the south side of Colima between Paso Real and Jellick - Status: DPW has studied this problem and is committed to making the necessary improvements. Relocation of existing underground utility lines that would interfer with the project has begun. Improved commercial signage - The RHCCC was successful in obtaining improved community standards for commercial signs several years ago. Status: Progress on this goal however will be slow. State law mandates local government to allow a 15 year amortization period if they require business owners to erect new signs. The County can and will require compliance with the new sign program if a shopping center owner is applying for permits to make structural changes. Construction of a marquee type community message board - Status: Goal Achieved Construction of monument type
signs marking the boundaries of Rowland Heights along our primary roadways. Solar radar speed signs for Pathfinder Road - Status: Goal Achieved Continue to work with the County in an attempt to find a solution to the problem of speeding on Salerosa Drive. Status: Frequent stakeouts along this street are being conducted by the CHP. Watch your speed! Eliminate the posting of illegal signs in the public right-of-way (For example: "Tattoo Expo" type advertisements nailed to trees & taped to light poles and fences). Status: Significant improvement has been achieved, but this will be an ongoing problem requiring vigilance. Please help by reporting violations to the local office of public works. Eliminate the eyesore of abandoned shopping carts throughout the community. Status: Significant improvement has been achieved during the year Improved community input regarding proposed developments. Status: This is an ongoing problem that will require continued community awareness Improved community-wide traffic flow including a Fullerton Road underpass for the rail line that lies just north of Gale Avenue. Status: We should start to see better traffic signal coordination as a result of a high tech monitoring system that should be installed within the next year. The underpass is a long term goal that will be very expensive ($45 to $50 million). No funding or government commitment in sight, but the community needs to keep striving to obtain this needed improvement. Eliminate the problem of tour buses operators and their customers using our shopping centers and residential areas for parking and as pick up and drop-off sites. Status: Thanks to the support of the local Sheriff's deputies and local CHP officers this problem has been solved (at least for the time being). |
